Fall State Assessments

The Smarter Balanced assessments (ELA and math) and the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS) are normally given in the spring. In Washington, the spring 2021 tests were postponed until fall. Dieringer students in grades 4 through 8 took those assessments in late October and early November. Fall tests reflect the grade students were in during the 2020-21 school year.

Fall assessments were shorter than usual, but help us know, along with other measures, how students are doing in these subjects. They also provide important information to understand how districts and the state are doing in meeting students’ learning needs.

Fall scores are available in Skyward. Paper score reports will go home with students on April 1.

Spring State Assessments

The annual spring assessments take place in May and early June in the Dieringer district, and provide a key measure to help education leaders, teachers, and parents improve learning. Knowing which students are ready for career, college, and life, and knowing how well our schools are preparing all students, are important parts of Washington’s accountability system.

In the spring of 2022, students in grades 3-8 will take the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA) in math and English language arts (ELA). 5th and 8th graders will also take the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science (WCAS).

Detailed testing schedules for each school and grade will be provided by your child’s school, and can also be viewed on the calendar on this page.
