Early Childhood Special Education

Dieringer provides Development Preschool services for children, ages 3-5, who qualify as eligible. Special Education preschool services are typically a blend of several services, which might include speech, physical and occupational therapy as well as integrated classroom opportunities with disabled and non-disabled peers.
Eligible 3-5 year olds are identified through child find, the district's process of identifying students not yet attending school, who might have a handicapping condition and possibly be in need of special education services. Child find screenings are scheduled for various dates during the school year.

Child Find

If you suspect an infant, child or young adult of having a developmental delay or disability, your school can open a window of hope for a brighter future. Services at no cost to the family are available to all eligible individuals from 3 through 21 years of age (starting at birth for auditory and/or visual impairments) regardless of the severity of their disability.

November 18, 2022 -12:00pm to 3:30pm

IDEA

The stated purpose of the IDEA is:

to ensure that all children with disabilities have available to them a free appropriate public education that emphasizes special education and related services designed to meet their unique needs and prepare them for further education, employment, and independent living;
to ensure that the rights of children with disabilities and parents of such children are protected;
to assist States, localities, educational service agencies, and Federal agencies to provide for the education of all children with disabilities;
to assist States in the implementation of a statewide, comprehensive, coordinated, multidisciplinary, interagency system of early intervention services for infants and toddlers with disabilities and their families;
to ensure that educators and parents have the necessary tools to improve educational results for children with disabilities by supporting system improvement activities; coordinated research and personnel preparation; coordinated technical assistance, dissemination, and support; and technology development and media services;
to assess, and ensure the effectiveness of, efforts to educate children with disabilities.

Developmental Preschool

Our developmental preschool program focuses on individualized programs and group activities that help children ages 3-5. Classes are taught by trained special education personnel. Children qualify for Developmental Preschool through the Child Find process (see above).
